One Million Safe Working Hours
Carnell's most recent safety achievement is working 19 months without a RIDDOR reportable accident. In the process over One Million Safe Working Hours have been accumulated, as well as an AFR of Zero.
In a letter to his colleagues, Chief Executive Darren Nelson paid tribute to their efforts: "I would like to personally thank you for your contribution to this result. I recognise that such goals cannot be achieved without everybody being involved, especially those delivering the work on site. It is important that we remain focused and vigilant, maintaining the high standards that we are now setting with regards to health and safety and also the quality of work being delivered."
Instrumental in improving Carnell's safety culture was the identification of six ‘key tools' and their promotion within the company to develop Behavioural Safety:
- Good Communication
- Analysis (before blame)
- Lead Indicators
- Challenging Each Other
- Workforce Involvement
- Modelling (Safety) 100%
Ultimately, Carnell's goal is to create a work environment that is incident free. The next key milestone is in July, which marks two years without a reportable accident.
To communicate this message to other stakeholders, a poster was put up around all Carnell offices which can be downloaded by clicking here
