Andrew joined the Carnell team in 2019 and was promoted to the role of Managing Director in October 2021. He has overall responsibility for the successful leadership and management of the business, promoting the Carnell vision, values and the way we work.
Andrew has over 25 years’ experience working in the highways industry and is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the CIHT, and an Associate of the Chartered Management Institute.
In his previous role of Business Director, Andrew’s focus was managing framework bids, performance management, maintaining our ISO44001 Collaborative Relationships certification, and communication across the wider business.
Andrew is passionate about our ambition to grow the business while keeping our people at the heart of all that we do. He ensures our vision, ‘We Imagineer Tomorrow Today’ is the centre piece of all Carnell activity. A focus for both the innovative and quality service we deliver for our clients, and the welcoming and supportive environment we want for all our employees.”
Business Director
Adrian arrived at Carnell from National Highways where he led the role out of the inaugural Asset Delivery contract and latterly held the position of Interim Regional Director for the Midlands. Joining Carnell in 2021 as Business Director, he is responsible for our strategic work winning, business performance, continual improvement and marketing. Adrian’s role focuses on our strategic relationships, new and old, collaborating to ensure our client’s imperatives are achieved.
He is a chartered civil engineer with more than three decades of industry experience spanning both the public and private sector. During this time, he’s developed a wealth of knowledge in the design, commercial and delivery aspects of highway maintenance.
Head of HR
Becky is a chartered member of CIPD and has experience in a variety of private sector companies from logistics to retail. She joined Carnell in 2022 as our HR Manager, bringing energy and enthusiasm to the team.
Becky is passionate about creating an inclusive and welcoming environment, she has ambitions to develop relationships that will inspire future engineers and encourage more women to join the industry.
As the champion of Carnell’s ‘Invest in our People’ approach, she fosters the wellbeing of our employees and does what is right by them, future proofing our people and creating an engaging culture.
SHEQ Director
Danny joined Carnell in 2004 and gained valuable experience starting out on the tools. He worked across several areas of our operations, before moving into supervisory and management positions. Danny joined the SHEQ Team in 2017 and was able to use his excellent knowledge of our operations to enhance the risk controls. He was appointed SHEQ Director in October 2021.
Danny takes pride in creating and maintaining an excellent health and safety culture, ensuring continued focus on the safety and wellbeing of all at Carnell, and our supply chain. His goal to continually improve, promote best practice and be the benchmark for safety across the highway maintenance sector.
Commercial Director
As our Commercial Director, James oversees the estimating, quantity surveying and procurement functions within Carnell. Prior to joining Carnell in 2010, he developed his commercial skills in the utilities sector, implementing more rigorous processes and procedures and identifying opportunities for business growth.
In a career spanning more than 25-years, James has enabled commercial teams that are passionate about what they do and who value long term, collaborative relationships with our clients, based upon trust and integrity. His passion to ensure we are a company that is easy to do business with that has an appetite to continually improve, maximising client value and minimising waste in the process.
plant & transport Director
Lee followed his father’s footsteps into the highways industry, gaining a wealth of knowledge before joining Carnell in 2003. As Site Manager for the earliest version of StoneMaster, he was key in developing it into the success it is today. Later, Lee took up the role of Plant and Transport Manager before promotion to Director.
His leadership oversees the safe provision and maintenance of all company plant, equipment, and the fleet of vehicles. Lee ensures compliance and reliability while looking to operate sustainably to reduce the company’s impact on local communities and the wider environment.
Finance Director
Leigh joined Carnell in February 2022 and as Finance Director is responsible for financial management and planning, insurance and risk management. He completed a degree in Civil Engineering before launching into the world of finance, becoming a Big 4 qualified Fellow Chartered Accountant
Leigh has over 10 years’ experience on senior leadership teams, and in an earlier part of his career served as Finance Director for AECOM. With an accomplished track record of financial leadership, business improvement and operational efficiency, Leigh was named Yorkshire Finance Director of the Year in 2021.
Operations Director
Paul is a chartered professional civil engineer, with over 25 years of experience, and a proven track record of delivering major highway infrastructure renewal and improvement projects for National Highways. His focus is on efficient delivery, specifically motivating his teams to complete schemes to programme and budget while maintaining excellent safety practice.
Paul joined the Carnell team as Operations Director in 2019 from Costain where he was Scheme Delivery Manager and joint venture contract lead to A-one+. He has spent his entire career in the highways sector, working for tier one contractors.
Digital Solutions Director
Peter joined Carnell in 2009 and has been fundamental in our IT development and the introduction of crucial systems across all business streams. He was appointed as IT Director in 2014.
Prior to Carnell, Peter worked in the utilities sector for 12 years as an IT Project Manager. He managed a team of software developers and was responsible for the development and implementation of IT systems.
Peter and his team ensure our technology is commensurate with the needs of the company. He has a healthy passion for data handling and management, ensuring our cyber security is the best it can be. A great trouble shooter and innovator, Peter is the focal point for our digital ambitions.
Operations Director
Rod joined Carnell in 2008, following a distinguished career in the British Army where he achieved the rank of Warrant Officer second class (WO2). Demonstrating his natural leadership and management skills, he was promoted to Operations Manager in 2015 and to Operations Director in 2020.
Rod is the focal point for our specialist drainage activity, a service that provides end-to-end asset management. His expectation is that his nationwide team delivers a quality service, ‘right first-time’. He has an excellent record of delivering on time and within budget, while maintaining high safety standards. He has a passion for working collaboratively with the client to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions.
