Carnell Appoint Two New Directors

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Lucie Clarke as HR Director and Rodney Robb as Water Management Director.

Lucie and Rod will take up their new roles from 1st November as part of a restructure which will see the existing Board evolve into an Executive Board and an Operations Board. This will better align the business with our growth ambitions and the reporting requirements into Renew.

Lucie has been with Carnell for a total of 11 years, originally joining in 2009 as part of the Plant & Transport team, generating a grass roots knowledge of what was required for the work we undertake. In 2011, Lucie moved into the Performance team to gain experience and understanding of how performance measures impact our business and how measuring KPI’s has a positive effect not just throughout our business but also for our clients. After a short career interval outside Carnell, (during which time Lucie came to realise that the Highways industry was the place she wanted to be!) Lucie re-joined the business as part of the Commercial team. This was to prove excellent experience for future roles on bids and work winning. In 2016 Lucie joined our HR team. People are the greatest asset of any successful business, and there is of course no element of the business that operates without people. This role helped Lucie foster an understanding and gain experience of all aspects and all departments of the business, and a greater depth of respect for the greatest resource we have, our ‘human resource’.

On her promotion to the Board, Lucie commented “I am looking forward to this new challenge and taking on my new role as HR Director, becoming part of the Operational Board. I will continue to put our employees first as they are the most important asset we have, and I will continue to ensure we are a responsible employer and that all our employees remain happy and valued working at Carnell.”

Rod has been with Carnell for over 12 years, initially starting on site as a Water Management supervisor in April 2008. He was quickly promoted to Contracts Manager in October the same year. Rod was instrumental with the growth of the Water Management division where considerable investment was made and we purchased our own CCTV fleet (c.£1.5m). This was closely followed by bringing the GIS/CCTV/CAD skill elements in-house, which is now the Technical Services Department. Water Management was now self-delivering drainage surveys, managing the data capture on site and the delivery of quality product for our clients. Rod is passionate about drainage and is a recognised leader in his field. Continuing to drive the division forward, he was promoted to Operations Manager in May 2015. Working in Highways, Major Projects, Rail, Water Industry, and Local Authorities, Water Management has now become a very diverse work orientated division within the company. Rod came to Carnell with strong management and leadership experience having served 22 years in the Army. He continued to develop his knowledge and experience with Carnell achieving an NVQ Level 7 Diploma in Construction Senior Management.

On joining the new Operations Board, Rod commented that “Since leaving the Army, Carnell has allowed me to keep learning, developing, and progressing through the company. I always look forward to the next challenge, and always continue to look forward and accept new responsibilities.”

Welcoming these two new appointments, Aidan Clarke, Managing Director, said: “I am delighted that we have promoted Lucie and Rod and welcome both to our leadership teams. Lucie and Rod have both given many years’ dedication to the business and will be important additions to our new Operations Board. Their appointment alongside our Board restructure are important steps in aligning the business to meet the evolving needs of our client and the new Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) contract, as well as capitalising on emerging opportunities to deliver new added value for our clients.”
