FASTtrack

Award winning drainage survey resource for fast, cost effective highway asset management.

CIHT & ICE. Commended 2014

FASTtrack surveys help asset holders to quickly collect detailed drainage inventory and condition data, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding on-going maintenance.

Carnell created the FASTtrack solution with the aim of enabling a swifter population of the Highways England drainage database. This in turn identifies areas requiring a more detailed investigation (provided by the traditional HADDMS surveys) and subsequent remediation so that maintenance budgets can be maximised.

As the leading provider of Full Asset Detailed Drainage / HADDMS surveys over the last 10 years, Carnell were able to develop a methodology which would strike a better balance between comprehensive condition assessment and speed by removing time-consuming and costly elements and focusing on the most critical aspects.

GPS Inventory Surveys and CCTV Condition Surveys are undertaken by Carnell’s site teams to a modified specification. Data is returned to the Technical Services team and processed each week before being QA checked and uploaded to a GIS Drainage Viewer and HADDMS.

The benefits

  • Outputs are 3x higher than traditional CCTV – averaging 1500 metres per shift.
  • The cost of a FASTtrack™ survey is up to 2 times cheaper than a traditional CCTV drainage survey.
  • FASTtrack™ survey reports are available within half the time; typically 2-3 weeks.
  • FASTtrack™ reports are 100% electronic, available on-line 24/7 365 days per year, via the ‘Carnell Portal’, accessible via the internet and maintained following repeat surveys.
  • Eliminates paper based reports that are bulky to store and unsuitable for use in the field environment.

Typical uses

  • Rapid collection of data where the drainage inventory is unknown.
  • Rapid collection of condition data where no information exists, or where it is out of date.
  • Preliminary survey of networks with history of flooding, or with high flood risk, to give an indication of the causal defect(s) and target the more detailed traditional CCTV surveys.
  • Ongoing monitoring of the condition of a drainage network against previous surveys, to enable general network condition to be monitored over time.
  • Monitor the ongoing condition of identified drainage defects, ensuring only timely and cost-effective interventions are carried out.
  • Following remediation scheme works to verify that the work has been carried out to standards.
