Assistant / Trainee Quantity Surveyor

We have an exciting position for an Assistant / Trainee Quantity Surveyor to oversee a nationwide technology contract for one of our blue-chip clients. As our Assistant / Trainee Quantity Surveyor you will report to and be supported by the Managing QS.

Specialising in Highways, Civils, Drainage, Technology, Survey Works, Carnell have been working to maintain the UK’s Highways Network and Transport Infrastructure running safely and efficiently since 1992. We work directly for National Highways as a Tier 1 contractor, and for a large number of other clients within the Highways and Infrastructure sectors.

Responsibilitiesbut not limited to:

  • Liaise with operational staff including clients and subcontractors
  • Price and submission of quotations for works on a maintenance contract
  • Ensure scheme costs are correct on cost system (Nav13) and raise and queries where necessary
  • Attend internal / external meetings (both electronically and face to face)
  • Produce and maintain up to date schedules and log callouts
  • Compile and issue monthly valuations to the client
  • Manage supply chain, issuing orders assessing Subcontract AfPs and process payments
  • Carry out reconciliation of cost and value through a monthly CVR process
  • Occasional travel to client offices (Chorley, Birmingham etc)

Qualifications / Experience

  • Degree qualified (BSc/MSc) in Quantity Surveying, or working towards
  • Experience in Civil Engineering / Highways / Electrical projects
  • Demonstrable record of supporting the commercial team managing complex, high value contracts
  • Experience of NEC3/4 and working on frameworks
  • Experience of digital systems, particularly Microsoft Office and costing software (Valesco)

  • Enthusiastic and willingness to take ownership of contracts/frameworks
  • Good commercial awareness
  • Full UK clean driving licence
