Contract Manager

Location

Leyland / Preston – Covering the North West (Highways England Area 10).

Role

Not limited to:

  • Must be clear about their duties under the H&SWA in relation to their own safety and that of others.
  • Write and review regularly all necessary H&S documentation. i.e. Construction Phase Plan. RAMS, Job Packs
  • Ensure all works under their charge are carried out safely in accordance with our SHE Management system and that they do not pose a danger to the workers on site, sub-contractors, site visitors or members of the general public.
  • Consider the Customer (road users and local residents) and be proactive to mitigate complaints.
  • Coach peers to improve team and company performance.
  • Develop effective and efficient work teams and motivate individuals to meet targets.
  • Liaise with clients and develop good business relationships.
  • Undertake pre-tender site visits and submit reports to the commercial department for pricing when instructed to do so by the CM.
  • Ability to read and interpret site drawings and specifications to a high standard.
  • Ability to recognise items of temporary works on schemes and develop a temporary works register
  • Ability to supervise and check elements of temporary works in line with a prepared design.
  • Able (with minimal supervision) to produce and collate comprehensive as-built information and records to complete scheme H&S files.
  • Demonstrate detailed understanding of the relationship between documents within the works information.
  • Demonstrates an excellent understanding of ITP’s and their limits in controlling quality of works on site.

Responsibilities

  • Safety, Health & Environmental – Ensure all works under their control are carried out safely and that they do not pose a danger to the workers on site, sub-contractors, site visitors or members of the general public.
  • Quality – Ensure all works are carried out to the contract specification.
  • Commercial – Manage and report on the commercial performance of the contract, including monthly CVR Reviews.  Achieve targets and identify variation orders for commercial assessment.
  • Resource Management – Plan and programme site works in accordance with the instructions of the client and prepare the associated Site Works Plan.  Ensure that all plant, machinery and personnel are suitable.
  • Client Relationships – Liaise with clients and maintain good business relationships to help ensure a steady flow of work and identify new opportunities.
  • People – Responsibility for performance of Supervisors and Foremen under their control and to continually appraise and develop their skills, and those of new starters, through coaching and training.

Experience

Essential:

  • HNC/ HND – Civil Engineering.
  • Experience in the Industries in which we work i.e. highways, etc
  • CSCS Manager Card
  • SMSTS
  • Ability to read plans and drawings to a high standard
  • Good understanding of the relationship between contract documentation.
  • Confident using MS Project

Preferable:

  • Already operating as a site agent / project manager
  • NRSWA Accreditation
  • Degree Civil Engineering
  • CITB Temporary Works Training
  • CPCS Lift Supervisor accreditation

Person Specification

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Professional attitude and ability to operate without supervision
  • Good understanding of contract documents and the relationship between them
  • Capable of teaching and developing operatives
  • Demonstrates strong Health and Safety skills and leadership
  • Good time management & high degree of organisation.
  • Good Appreciation of Engineering principles.
  • An understanding of relevant Health & Safety legislation
  • Full clean driving licence
