About the Role

We’re looking for a proactive and skilled Civil Engineer to support the planning, design and delivery of highway projects across the UK. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, contractors and local authorities, ensuring all work meets the highest technical and safety standards.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring projects run smoothly, safely and efficiently — from ground-breaking permits to final quality checks.

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

In this role, you will:

  • Produce and review high-quality permits to break ground
  • Support quality assurance and quality control activities, including developing processes and testing procedures
  • Ensure ITP quality checks are in place and regularly reviewed
  • Manage the MAR process and work specifications
  • Issue and control RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statements)
  • Carry out Cat & Genny surveys and review statutory information
  • Issue and manage permits on site
  • Set out works accurately
  • Maintain effective document control
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, clients and supply chain partners
  • Promote safe working practices and uphold Carnell’s core values at all times

 

What You’ll Bring:

We’re looking for someone who has:

Experience & Qualifications

  • Background in highways, civil engineering or drainage
  • CSCS Black or Gold Card
  • SMSTS or SSSTS
  • Good understanding of CDM regulations and principal contractor duties
  • Knowledge of National Highways specifications
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexibility to work from home and travel nationwide
