As part of the Renew Group, Carnell have been presented with a Supply Chain Sustainability School (SCSS) Award for Supply Chain Engagement.
We have been managing and reducing our Scope 1 and 2 emissions for several years, supported by our PAS 2080 certification. This recent accolade from SCSS recognises the success we have had in collecting and reporting Carbon beyond our own operations, to the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol’s Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) standard.
Scope 3 relates to how we are actively addressing supply chain emissions, and in the first year of its roll-out, we reported 57% of our suppliers’ carbon data via SCSS, with Renew Group having a follow up target of 80% by September 2026.
This has been done alongside a targeted programme of training on climate change, net zero and carbon reporting. The initiative has seen more than 2,400 participants from Renew Holdings plc’s extended supply chain undertake training and complete e-learning modules through the SCSS.
Renew are the first to report supply chain emissions into the Supply Chain Sustainability School system at group level, an approach recognised as best practice by SCSS. Once we establish a robust benchmark, we plan to then engage key supply chain partners to develop and implement reduction strategies that enhance whole-life carbon performance on National Highways project.
Supply Chain Manager Wayne Musgrave commented, “Thanks to the Carnell procurement and plant teams, and the close working relationships developed over the years with our key supply-chain partners, we were successful in exceeding the targeted 50% reporting. We go again next year, as we look to further increase our engagement and education around Scope 3 emissions.”
Our thanks go to James Weir, Head of Procurement & Supply Chain at QTS Group for leading the implementation of the Carbon Calculator across Renew’s 10 subsidiaries.
