Job Purpose
The role requires a good general understanding of working on high-speed roads and in a civil engineering environment. You will need to work as a part of a team and have excellent communication skills. As a Highways Operative you will follow instructions from Supervisors and above, alongside always complying with site rules and Carnell Health & Safety policies.
Within this role you will be required to work nationally, most of our roles within this department are a mixture of day/evening shifts, therefore it is essential that you have the ability to work both days and nights.
There will be times that you will have interactions with customers, such as road users and residents. You must be able to deal with customers in an empathetic and polite manner.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – but not limited to
- Receiving Start of Shift Briefings
- Kerbing/ Edgings
- Flagging/ Trenching
- Drainage all depths
- Ducting/ Cabinet sites
- Cabling
- Cable Pulling
- Concreting
- Step building
- Chamber construction
- Earthworks
- Ability to read plans and drawings.
- Complete installation of works to the correct detail and specifications.
Personal Attributes
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Professional attitude and ability to operate without supervision.
- Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally.
Experience and Qualifications
- NPORS / CPCS training in Excavators/Dupers/Rollers
- CSCS Operative Card essential
- Cat & Genny training
- NRSWA Accreditation desirable
- Roller & Dumper cards / trained
- Safe excavation techniques
- Full UK Driving License
