BRIDGES & sTRUCTURES PROJECT

M6 Eden Bridge joints

replacement of a series of deteriorated joints on the Eden Bridge.

A Trusted Partner

Route One have a long relationship with National Highways, delivering a variety of different schemes for them on the strategic road network. Being a supply chain partner for them in several regions, with a track-record of providing them with a quality service, was the driving factor behind our selection for this project.

The M6 Eden Bridge is located to the East of Carlisle in Cumbria. The motorway in this area is over 50 years old and connects Scotland with the North West.

The replacement of these deteriorated joints was an important project for a number of reasons – new joints would help to prolong the life of the bridge by improving its durability considerably, while also catering for the required levels of bridge movement and providing a safer ride for motorists.

Installing bridge joints

In total, approximately 400 metres of joints were determined to be in need of replacement, and our expert team from Route One swiftly set about doing so.

Day and night amidst live traffic under traffic management, with phased working required to minimise disruption to the network, several teams worked to install Sentinel EMR joints and Thormajoint asphaltic plug joints into the bridge.

After much hard work, all the required joint replacements were completed to the total satisfaction of the client. We are pleased to have completed another challenging yet necessary project, and look forward to continuing our strong working relationship with National Highways.
